As the only minivan to achieve the U.S. government’s highest crash-test rating for eight straight years, the 2003 Ford Windstar in providing families with a safe vehicle for their transportation needs. Durability is another key feature of the 2003 Ford Windstar, as its sturdy construction translates into a long and fruitful life.
The 2003 Ford Windstar is designed for families, and in that vein manufactures have equipped models with the necessary interior features. LX models feature air conditioning, power steering, front passenger area carpeting and cloth headliner, power mirrors, windows and door locks and an AM/FM radio. The SE adds such standards as rear air conditioning with rear controls, cruise control, remote keyless entry and an AM/FM/cassette/CD player.
At the upper half of the lineup, the SEL and Limited combine the features of the LX and SE and throw in a few of their own for good measure. The top-line Limited has a leather-wrapped steering wheel, quad bucket seats, 6-way power driver seat with power lumbar adjustment, heated power mirrors with turn signals and rear radio controls.
The 2003 Windstar retains the same basic design as previous models, but adds more aerodynamic side view mirrors, beltline moldings and B-pillar appliqués to reduce wind turbulence along the sides of the vehicle.
Each and every Windstar model is given the same capable engine. It is a 3.8-liter V6 that doles out 200 horsepower at 4900 rpm and 232 lb-ft of torque at 3600 rpm. 4-speed automatic transmission is standard, providing a fuel economy of 17/23 mpg (city/hwy). The result is enough power to handle full capacity and then some for whatever is in the trunk.
The safety system includes antilock brakes and dual front airbags and uses an electronic crash severity sensor, a restraint control module, driver’s seat position sensor, safety-belt pretensioners, energy management retractors and front outboard safety belt usage sensors to help protect the driver and front passenger in certain frontal collisions.
