Ford TruckFord laid off close to 300 of the UAW hourly workers this week from their Romeo Engine Plant. The layoff have been deemed indefinite. The engine plant employs 1,200 workers and builds several different V8 engines that are used in some of Ford’s larger cars and trucks.

Ford has curtailed production of many of those models, because of a sweeping consumer shift toward small, fuel-efficient cars models. “We are further aligning our capacity with demand, which is resulting in changes to operating patterns at Romeo,” Ford spokeswoman Angie Kozleski said.
