Ford ExplorerFor many years Ford has remained successful because of its F-Series and SUV’s. These cars were in such high demand that they did not need to improve on many of their sedans. Now thanks to gas prices they are being forced to remodel and rethink the way that these sedans are produced.

Automakers like Honda, never went the way of body-on-frame trucks and SUVs, preferring instead to continually improve its range of cars and crossover utility vehicles. That strategy is paying dividends in these days of high fuel prices, and Ford has taken notice. Asked whether he would prefer a more car-oriented model-mix, like that of Honda or Toyota, CEO Alan Mullaly recently answered, “Absolutely. We just don’t have enough of those small or medium-sized vehicles yet, and that’s what we need to concentrate on.”

2010 Ford FiestaFord has promised consumers that the new 2010 Fiesta will be great on fuel economy and I think that we can all agree that it something that we are looking for in a new car due to the increase in gas prices that seem to make us want to be rid of our trucks as fast as possible. Along with the great fuel economy they have mixed in quality interior, expensive-looking (but affordable) sheet metal, and an incredible driving experience.

Ford F-100For awhile now we have been waiting to see someone come out with smaller trucks. With the gas prices on the rise it only makes sense that many of the automakers try to stay away from the things that will make it harder to sell. Ford is the first automaker to take this step.

Ford is thinking about bringing back the F-100 name to a new mid-size truck that will be built on a more modified version of the F-150 platform. It will be close to 9/10th the size of the regular F-150 and will be built using aluminum in order to shave off even more weight. The F-100 – which actually share many of the same parts as the F-150 and will even be built on the same assembly line.

Ford FiestaFord is considering on whether or not the new Fiesta – which was revealed at the Geneva Motor Show – will make its way over to India. Michael Boneham is taking the place of Arvind Mathew as the new MD and President for Ford India. “It can be a possibility and we are studying this,” he said.

The US auto major, that does not command a good share in the Indian auto market, is gearing up for a larger play as it pumps in a fresh $500 million to enter the volume-driven small car segment and construct a fully-integrated and flexible engine manufacturing plant by 2010.
