The 2010 Ford Lincoln MKT mule has been spotted out on the streets and we are only too happy to see it. Ford had told us that the MKT would not look anything like the Ford Flex that it is related to and we are happy to see that they were right.
The well-covered MKT development vehicle looks an awful lot like the MKT concept from the 2008 Detroit Auto Show. Up front the new Lincoln split grille is visible under the bra, along with the same headlight shape as the concept. The concept’s love it or hate it belt-line also appears to be carry over to production, as well as the curvy C-pillar.
Ford laid off close to 300 of the UAW hourly workers this week from their Romeo Engine Plant. The layoff have been deemed indefinite. The engine plant employs 1,200 workers and builds several different V8 engines that are used in some of Ford’s larger cars and trucks.
Ford has curtailed production of many of those models, because of a sweeping consumer shift toward small, fuel-efficient cars models. “We are further aligning our capacity with demand, which is resulting in changes to operating patterns at Romeo,” Ford spokeswoman Angie Kozleski said.
One of the worst things about driving is having to deal with the blind spot. Many of us have forgotten to check and because of this we have narrowly escaped an accident. Some automakers have tried to fix this problem by building in sensors to warn you when something was behind or beside you.
Catalytic converters contain platinum and hang from the bottom of your car. They are becoming more and more popular and many people are having them stolen away due to their increase in value. These thefts are occurring more in the UK then anywhere else.
Not only does a missing cat let more pollution into the air, it also disables operation of the car in some cases. In an effort to combat this growing problem, Ford has partnered with Retainagroup to place individual serial numbers on converters.
Ford has officially pulled the curtains off of the new Ka - which will also be displayed at the 2008 Paris Motor Show in October later this year. While they released pictures of the car they did not give us any information or details concerning it.
We do know the Ka will share its underpinnings with the Fiat 500 and be built in the same factory in Poland, so it would be safe to assume that Ford’s new hatch will use similarly high quality materials and be built tight as a drum, as well. Engine choices are presumed to be 1.4L and 1.6L petrol powerplants and a 1.6L diesel, and a hot ST version using the 500’s turbo 1.4L is rumored to be arriving later.
